Raiders Trample Eagles

Written by  Hugh Bowden Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 4:54 pm

EAST MACHIAS — Back in December, the Ellsworth Eagles downed the Washington Academy Raiders by more than 20 points in their first meeting.

On Tuesday in East Machias, the 11th-ranked Raiders had their revenge, allowing the Eagles just eight rebounds and rolling to a 72-48 upset win.

Ellsworth again had a subpar night offensively, shooting just 33 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the foul line, and connecting on just three of 14 three-point attempts.

Thomas Sawyer finished with 13 points and Nick Holt added eight for the Eagles.

Christos Illopoulos-Ontoemelam led the 5-3 Raiders with 20 points and Drew Sansing added 10.
