Biggest Mover program is back

Written by  Fenceviewer Staff Monday, January 09, 2012 at 3:09 pm

BAR HARBOR — January typically brings in many New Year’s resolution-makers to the MDI YMCA looking to change their lives, get in shape, lose some weight or tone-up and so the Y is offering again its popular “Biggest Mover” program, a Y spokesman said.

The focus of the Biggest Mover program is to get men and women started in exercise, and more importantly, to keep individuals motivated so they remain committed to this important lifestyle change.

“That is the reason that we brought the program back and are expanding it to run from January to June this year,” says Becky Carroll, wellness assistant at the MDI YMCA. “Last year, we offered the program in January and had 20 participants. It was very popular, so we decided to commit to it again for several program sessions this year.”

Participants will have classes geared especially for the Biggest Mover to choose from, including Zumba, beginner cycling, supervised fitness center sessions and weekly support meetings.

“Although the program isn’t a contest, we’ll try to make it fun with challenges and motivational incentives. We hope to have people sign up for the first session that begins in early January, but we want to encourage anyone interested in starting a healthy lifestyle to join in at anytime from now to June,” said Carroll.

For more information, including fee structure, meeting times and financial assistance, contact the MDI Y at 288-3511. The MDI YMCA is located on Park Street in Bar Harbor.
