MDI swimmers are strong at Morse Invitational

Written by  Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 10:00 am

BATH — The Mount Desert Island High School swim team competed last week against teams from southern Maine in the Morse Invitational. MDI finished third overall behind Bangor and Greely.

Bangor’s boys’ team scored 130 points; the Bangor girls scored 132. Greely’s boys’ and girls’ teams both finished with 110 points. MDI’s boys’ team finished with 80 points; the girls finished with 96. Cheverus followed MDI in fourth place, ahead of Windham in fifth, and Morse in sixth.

“We already knew that Bangor and Greely were really good,” said head coach Tony DeMuro. “But how we scored in this meet is almost irrelevant to us right now. As long as we feel like our kids are working hard and racing hard, which they are, we’re happy.”

On Friday, MDI is scheduled to swim against Old Town High School for a dual meet starting at 6 p.m. in Bar Harbor

“We’ll switch gears a little bit this week in practice to prepare for another dual meet,” said DeMuro. “Probably focus less on yardage and more on intensity.”
