Colby Outlasts Mariners

Written by  Fenceviewer Staff Wednesday, January 04, 2012 at 9:36 am

CASTINE — Dan Chase (Weston, Conn.) scored 12 points to lead Colby to a 51-45 win over Maine Maritime at Smith Gymnasium Tuesday evening. The Mules (4-7) led the Mariners (2-7) for the final 29 minutes of regulation in win, snapping a five-game skid.

Maine Maritime led by as many as seven in the early going, but treys from Chase and Kyle Donovan (Portland) on consecutive possessions made it a one-point game. Chase drained another three moments later to put his team ahead 16-14.

Colby held onto the lead the rest of the way.

The Mules got 23 points from their bench, including a dozen from Chase. Donovan pulled down 13 rebounds to help Colby to a 45-29 margin on the glass. Ben Foreman (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored 14 points, including 11 in the second half to thwart the Mariners comeback bid.

Maine Maritime got a 17-point, 10 rebound, double-double out of Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham) in the loss. It was his fifth double-double of the season. He also blocked five shots. Andy Ball (Hermon) gave the Mariners 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Mariners return to action Friday evening against Colby-Sawyer in North Atlantic Conference play. Colby returns to action at Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
