Written by  Saturday, December 24, 2011 at 3:12 pm

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School swim team sped past Presque Isle on Friday in a dual meet. The MDI girls allowed Presque Isle only one first-place finish (in the 50-yard freestyle) out of 12 events. And the MDI boys gave up first-place finishes in only two events (the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard freestyle).

“I like the way everything’s going. A lot of kids are doing new events. They’re trying the IM, trying the 500,” said head coach Tony DeMuro. “We’re not focused on the results.” The IM in an individual medley.

Next up for the Trojan swim team is a dual meet against Old Town High School on Friday, January 6, at 6 p.m., at the Lenny DeMuro pool in Bar Harbor.

“Like I say, we’re not looking at the results. I’m looking for effort,” said DeMuro. “We’re focusing on doing things with the right technique and really going after it, getting the idea of not holding back.”
