The Home Team Debuts

Written by  Hugh Bowden Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 2:21 pm

ELLSWORTH — On Saturday, the newest part of Springers competitive program made its meet debut.

“The Home Team is a new program that we started this past summer,” said coach Doug Springer. “This team is made up of nine girls that have shown an extra interest in gymnastics and wanted to continue to progress in our program.”

The second component is the Pre-Team, a group of younger girls who are excited about gymnastics and are preparing for competition in the next year or two.

“These teams are great,” said Springer, “because it’s giving these girls a good taste for what a competitive commitment is like without overwhelming them.”

They are in the gym twice a week learning routines and performing them at “in-house” meets.

“These girls showcase routines at Levels 2, 3 or 4,” said Springer. “Our competitive team starts at Level 4, so if one of these gymnasts does really well, and next year wants to continue, she has an opportunity and a great head start.”

Representing the Home Team on Saturday were Sara Shea, Megynn Lord and Ella Hubbard at Level 3, and Eleanor Tyne, Kajsa Brown Morrison, Syra Gutow, Sydney Eleftheriou, Jailan Deal and Kerrigan Shorey at Level 4.

Representing the Pre-Team were Mercedes Ulichny, Natalie Sawyer, Lily James, Genevieve Muise and Belle McCabe ag Level 2, and Ellie Kane, Kaela Springer, Riley Crowley and Kiera Springer at Level 3.
