Lady Tigers Cruise Past Mariners

Written by  Hugh Bowden Friday, December 16, 2011 at 11:54 am

SULLIVAN — Freshman Savana Turner scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Sumner Tigers to a 55-31 win over the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners on Thursday.

The Mariners jumped in front early as Sarah Boutilier, Janelle Ciomei and Logan Eaton combined for 10 unanswered points for a 12-4 DI-Stonington lead.

But the Tigers then mounted an 11-0 run of their own that spanned the waning moments of the first quarter and the opening minutes of the second period.

The Mariners knotted the score at 15-all, but back-to-back baskets by Turner and Genesis DiCarlo put the Tigers in front to stay.

Sumner pushed the lead to 30-18 by halftime and allowed the Mariners just three points in the third quarter while pulling away to a 47-21 advantage.

DiCarlo finished with 11 points and Jessica West had nine for the Tigers.

Ciomei finished with eight points and Chelsea Brown had seven for the Mariners.
