SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The work of two photographers highlights the walls of the Southwest Harbor Library in December; Stan Gott and Sandra Gott are the artists of the month.
The Gotts, whose work will be displayed on the walls, took up photography when they retired. “I bought a camera,” says Stan. “My wife saw the fun I was having, so I bought her one and it never leaves her side.” They photograph mostly wildlife and have found their subjects while hiking around Eagle Lake as well as while picking up supplies at Home Depot. Both are Southwest Harbor natives. Stan taught at Mount Desert Island High School, and Sandra was the office administrator for her brother-in-law Doug Gott and worked at the Southwest Harbor Medical Center. Photography gets the couple outdoors. “It has opened up a whole new world for us,” Stan says.
The library’s display case will feature the photographic work of Michelle Dyer-Fagan, also a Mount Desert Island native, is a graduate of Mount Desert Island High School and the librarian at Abbott Memorial Library in Dexter. “I take pictures of what I like, mostly landscape and natural objects,” she says. Photography is a way for her to capture a moment in time and space. “Even if you leave that place, it comes with you in a photograph,” she says.
