BUCKSPORT — School officials and the Golden Bucks are busy preparing for the Class C state title football game, which will be held Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
The Bucksport Golden Bucks, who are Eastern Maine Little Ten Champions, will play Yarmouth in a game kicking off at 2:36 p.m.
Regional School Unit 25 (RSU 25) Superintendent Jim Boothby said at the RSU 25 School Board meeting Tuesday that the football boosters had approached him about sending the team to Portland on a coach bus instead of a school bus.
The team would have a much more comfortable ride to Portland on a coach bus than a school bus before the big game.
Boothby said the union has had no protocols for such a request in the past.
“I am supportive of it, but it has to be equitable,” Boothby said. “If we’re going to do it for the football team,” the cheerleading team and band should go down on a coach bus also, he said.
The coach buses will cost $1,170 each to transport the students to Portland and back.
