BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School girls’ cross-country team will travel to Rhode Island this weekend to participate in the New England championships. Historically, the highest an MDIHS team has placed in New England’s is 11th, in 2006.
“We’ve been working so hard all year, not necessarily toward this moment alone, but also toward becoming better athletes and better people,” said runner Maggie Painter. “We’ve come so far, and enjoyed every minute getting here. We’ve had good days and bad days, but every day has been something to remember. We’ve done so much and come so far, and now it’s time to wrap it all up with one last sprint to the finish. What more could we ask for out of a season?”
