Tracy’s Karate Holds 91st Tournament

TRENTON — Tracy’s Karate Ju-Jitsu of Ellsworth recently held its 91st tournament at Trenton Elementary School.

The event included “Student of the Year” awards as well as state of Maine team fights, a Tournament of Champions and ju-jitsu throwing competition.

Tracy’s organization is called the Maine Ketsugo Karate Association and has more than 25 affiliated dojos in Maine, Arizona and Canada.

All Black and Brown Belts contribute yearly dues to support a scholarship fund for students each year who are going on to further their education.

Scholarships totaling $1,800 were presented this year to senseis Meaghan Young of Bar Harbor and Matt Coty of Presque Isle. Over the past 40 years the organization has donated more than $100,000 in scholarships to deserving students.

Winners of various events and awards this year are as follows:

Instructor of the Year: Sensei Tom Anderson.

Students of the Year: Senseis Chip Reeves, Garrett Bowden, Kevin Murphy and Matt Bishop; also Matt Shea, Zane Fraser, Philip McBride, Zack Holcomb and Lauren Dawes.

Most Dedicated: Senseis Eben Richardson, Charlie Bishop and Faurice Bowden; also Justin Allen, Wyatt Kane, Juli Robbins and Alex Atherton.

Most Improved: Sensei Dustin Murphy; also Colby Hamilton, Heidi O’Connor, Marleigh Richardson, Aubrey Atherton and Camden Hatch.

Best Attitude: Hunter Dorr, John Baranowski, Owen Kelly, Colin Toothaker, Crystal Hatch and Grace Hatch.

Most Supportive Parent: Senseis Beth and Dean Murphy, Sensei Kelton and Melissa Hallett, John and Kiana Baranowski, Victoria and Larry Noyes and Sensei Ed and Crystal Hatch.

Team Winners: Clifford Nevells (first place team); Hunter Dorr, Charlotte Dupree and captain John Baranowski (second place team); Senseis Drew Haskell, Meaghan Young, Shawn Murphy and captain Mike Giles (Black Belt team).

First Place Throwing: Senseis Dustin and Shawn Murphy, John Baranowski and Philip McBride, John Mitchell and Bill Hanley, Lauren and Justin Dawes, Sydney Calwell and Robbie Giles, Colby Hamilton and Hunter Dorr.

Second Place Throwing: Senseis Mike Giles and Paul Healey, Senseis Delia Hallett and McKenzie Young, Rachel and Ezra Johnson, Sensei Michelle Morrow and Adam Aitkin, Aubrey Atherton and Crystal Hatch, Jenna Rice and Rachel Spencer, Justin Allen, Matt Shea, Hunter Dorr and Lauren Noyes.

Third Place Throwing: Senseis  Garrett and Faurice Bowden, Sarah McDonald and Lincoln Johnson, Miranda Byard and Crystal Hatch, Lauren Dawes and Caroline Tracy and Zack Turkel and Wade Carlin.

Grand Champions in Fighting: Senseis Everett Beal, McKenzie Young, Micah Hallett and Sarra Bridges; also Adam Aitkin, Philip McBride, Crystal Hatch and Juli Robbins.
