Trojans Clobber Coyotes

OLD TOWN — Mount Desert Island High School (5-3) crushed Old Town (2-6) in the final regular season game of the year 37-16. The Trojans will move on to the first round of the Class B Pine Tree Conference playoffs, post-season seeds have not yet been determined.

Elias Burne scored MDI's first points on a 4-yard run with 8:46 left in the first quarter. Burne scored again 4 minutes later with an 11-yard touchdown. Jayson Burke posted another unanswered MDI touchdown 1 minute and 27 seconds later. He rushed 20-yards into the goal line to make it 18-8 MDI leading.

Old Town responded with its first touchdown of the night followed by a two-point conversion with 5 minutes and 35 seconds left in the first half.

The score was 18-16 when Burke ran in a 12-yard touchdown followed by the only successful special teams point of the night for MDI--John Phelps kicked in the extra point. MDI led 25-16 at the half.

In the second half, quarterback Donny Hanson had a 37-yard touchdown run to make it 31-16, followed by Burne with his third touchdown of the night, a 22-yard run with 9 minutes and 27 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

MDI won 37-16 and were 1-5 for conversions throughout the night.
