POULTNEY, Vt. — The Green Mountain women's soccer team picked up its second win of the season, a 2-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Maine Maritime Academy. The second win in as many games bumped the Eagles to 2-8-1 (1-5 NAC). Maine Maritime Academy moves to 0-11 (0-6).
Maine Maritime Academy dominated possession of the in the first half tallying 10 shots and four corner kicks. The Eagles were able to hang tough with some great defense and solid goalkeeping from junior Emma Lord who had six saves in the scoreless half.
It was not until the 74th minute that the Eagles were able to capitalize on a corner kick from junior Casey McGill. She found Sam Tajirian inside the box where she slid the ball past Taylor O'Malley for the score.
The Eagles were able to build on the momentum. In the next minute, goalkeeper Emma Lord crushed a punt over midfield that started a breakaway for senior Erin Burch. She got a shot off from 20-feet out that found the lower right corner of the net to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Lord received the win for the Eagles and has now tallied three shutouts on the season. The Eagles host Husson University on Sunday for a NAC match.
The Mariners will travel to Castleton State on Sunday.
