LEWISTON — Maine Maritime Academy placed eighth among the 12 teams competing at the Maine Cross Country Championships, hosted by Bates College. The Bobcats bested Bowdoin for the team title with five runners in the top seven places.

Bowdoin produced the meet medalist in Cobly Horowitz, who covered the eight-kilometer course in 25:53 to finish six seconds ahead of Bates' Tully Hannan.

Cameron Roy (Orrington) was the first Mariner to cross the finish line. The freshman logged a 29:52 for 75th place. Wyatt LaPage (Portsmouth, N.H.), Noel Deserres-Gauthier (Dover, N.H.) and Foster Blake (Gorham) crossed in places 114 through 116, respectively. LaPage clocked a 32:18, while Deserres-Gauthier and Blake both crossed at 32:27.

Jurgen Pilot (Bangor) finished in 122nd place at 32:45 to round out the top five. Maine Maritime Academy returns to action next Saturday when it hosts the Mariner Invitational.
