CASTINE — Maine Maritime Academy quarterback, Matthew Rende was named the Eastern Conference Athletics Conference (ECAC) Division III North Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Mariners 36-34, double-overtime victory at Westfield State.
Rende rushed for 151 yards on 21 carries (7.2) and was responsible for three touchdowns in the win at Westfield State. His 74-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter forced overtime. He rushed for a touchdown and threw for another in the extra sessions.
Rende was named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The ECAC's honor is his first of the season.
The 4-1 Mariners return to action this weekend against Framingham State. The game will be played on Ritchie Field in Castine.
