ELLSWORTH — Presque Isle outshot Ellsworth 26-9 in a battle of unbeatens, but the Eagles turned nearly half of those nine shots into goals in the 4-1 win.
Kyle Haslam put Ellsworth in front less than three minutes into the game when he headed a Josh Bean corner kick into the net.
But the Wildcats knotted the score with about 11 minutes to go in the first half on a shot by Isaac LaJoie.
Bean put Ellsworth ahead to stay about 16 minutes into the second half after a shot by Nick Holt was blocked. Bean redirected the loose ball past Wildcat goalie Andrew Kofstad and into the net.
Bean scored again 40 seconds later on a shot that bounced off Kofstad’s hands and off another player and into the goal.
Haslam added an insurance goal with less than 12 minutes to go with Bean getting the assist.
Ellsworth goalkeeper Thomas Sawyer had eight saves and Kofstad had two.
