BAR HARBOR — The Acadians third- and fourth-grade football team launched an attack against Dexter last Sunday but fell 27-6 after some stellar plays and hard-fought yardage.
MDI won the coin toss and elected to get the ball. On its first possession, MDI had a 42-yard drive only to lose the ball on a fumble around the 25-yard line. Dexter converted the turnover into a 50-yard run by their quarterback for a touchdown. The second offensive series for MDI was highlighted by a 42-yard gain by Maddox “Demon” Laurenduau. Quarterback Logan “Storm” Beckwith also had a 10-yard gain, and Full Back Kyle “Truck” Collin moved the ball 4 yards, just short of the first down.
According to head coach Ken Hill, the defense was lead by tackles from Cameron “Red Bull” Abbot, Laurenduau and Archer “Pain train” Hill. Even with the sharper defense on this series, the MDI Trojans could not stop the Dexter team from scoring 20 more points before the end of the game.
But MDI’s offense wasn’t finished.
QB Beckwith scored a complete pass to Stevie “Steamroller” Gilbert for a 4-yard gain. In the next play, Sam “Speedy” Mitchell scored on a 69-yard run to the left side of the field.
The game was highlighted by all the yardage gains, a 42-yard run by Laurendeau, the 69-yard touchdown run by Gilbert, and a 42-yard run by Sam Mitchell.
“We are getting better each week. Everybody came back home healthy and happy, just what we want for the third- and fourth-grade team,” said Hill.
