Bucksport Remains Undefeated

Written by  Hugh Bowden Sunday, October 02, 2011 at 3:26 pm

BANGOR — Quarterback Mike Cummings passed for two touchdowns and Shawn Smith rushed for another as the Bucksport Golden Bucks downed the John Bapst Crusaders 19-7 on Saturday.

Cummings completed just four of eight passes for 53 yards but made them count, connecting on an 18-yard pass to Chris Powell and a 12-yarder to Jake Stewart for touchdowns.

Smith carried the ball 19 times for 109 yards, including one run of 34 yards, and went in for the Golden Bucks’ final touchdown from the one-yard line.

Josh Gray was one-for-two on extra point kicks for the Golden Bucks, who improved to 5-0 in Little Ten Conference play.

Both defenses were stingy.

Bucksport yielded the Crusaders just 87 yards on the ground and 110 yards via the pass.

The Golden Bucks picked up just 135 yards running the ball against the previously unbeaten Crusaders.

The lone score for John Bapst came on a four-yard touchdown run by Andrew Catlin in the fourth quarter with Mark Dieuveuil kicking the extra point.

Nick Bishop led the Bucksport defense with seven solo tackles, two assists and a fumble recovery. Powell had six solo tackles and two assists, and Smith contributed five solo tackles and two assists.

Bucksport will host the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx Friday in a 7 p.m. Homecoming game at Carmichael Field.
