Lady Hornets Sting Mariners

CASTINE — Sarah Cornell's (Lyndonville, Vt.) fifth goal of the season was all of the offense Lyndon State needed to pick up a 4-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday at Ritchie Field.

Cornell finished off a scramble in front of the Mariners' (0-8, 0-3 NAC) net to give the Hornets (7-3, 2-1 NAC) a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute. It was the only marker before the half. Ceili Grinnell (Easton, Conn.) assisted the goal. It was the first of her two points on the day. She struck with a low shot, just inside of the left post in the 76th minute.

The Hornets owned a ten-minute stretch in the second half. In the 72nd minute, Lindi Libera (West Burke, Vt.) took a long, low cross from deep in the right corner at the top left of the box. Her 18-yard blast to the lower left corner found its way underneath of starting keeper, Kelsie Hilton (Monmouth).

Taylor O'Malley (Cranston, R.I.) came on shortly after Grinnell's marker. O'Malley saw Heather Fortin (Lebanon) tidy up an unsettled situation at 79:59. O'Malley recorded one save, while Hilton had four. Their counterpart, Tia Bilalado turned away a pair of MMA's eight shots. Adele Zeh (Nunda, N.Y.) worked the final minutes of the game without facing a shot on goal.

The Mariners return to action this afternoon when Johnson State pays a visit to Castine. The Hornets head up the road to Husson for more NAC play.
