ELLSWORTH — With just 43 seconds remaining in the final overtime period, Hermon freshman Savannah Allain and senior Nicole Turmel teamed up for a goal that lifted the Hawks to a 2-1 win over the Ellsworth Eagles Tuesday night at Del Luce Stadium.

Allain dribbled to the right of the goal and lined a perfect cross to Turmel, who punched the ball past Ellsworth goalkeeper Jessica Toothaker and into the net.

Moments earlier, the Eagles came up empty on several shot attempts after a throw-in from freshman Emily Berry ended up directly in front of the Hermon goal.

Long throw-ins into the goal area by Berry and junior Cristin Wright created opportunities for the Eagles throughout the game, but they were unable to capitalize.

Hermon took a 1-0 lead with just 2:37 remaining in the first half when sophomore Kaitlin Saulter scored.

The Eagles knotted the score at 1-1 at the 21:06 mark of the second half on a shot into the net by Annika Firestone.

The Hawks had a chance for the go-ahead goal with about three minutes left in regulation play, but a header off a free kick was just wide of the goal.

The win boosted the 8-1 Hawks to the top of the Eastern Maine Class B standings, and the 5-3 Eagles are ranked third.
