Trojan Girls Are Winners at Old Town Meet

OLD TOWN — Ellsworth sophomore Aleta Looker claimed yet another win, running away from the rest of the field at Friday’s 62nd annual Old Town Sectional Invitational cross-country meet.

Looker toured the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes and 45 seconds, besting runner-up Adrienne Carmack of the John Bapst Crusaders by more than a minute.

But it was the Mount Desert Island Trojan girls who claimed varsity team honors, putting five runners among the top 15 and finishing with 41 points.

MDI was followed by John Bapst 55, Caribou 64, Orono 102, Ellsworth 105, Presque Isle 192, Hermon 209, Old Town 228 and Foxcroft Academy and Mattanawcook Academy no scores.

Maggie Painter led the Trojan girls, placing fourth in 21:05. She was followed by Nora Hubbell, sixth in 21:43; Malia Demers, 10th in 21:53; Olivia Erickson, 11th in 21:56; and Isabel Erickson, 13th in 22:08.

Also for MDI, Rachel McMinnimy was 16th in 22:20 and Caroline Driscoll was 20th in 22:40.

Behind Looker for Ellsworth were Mallory Nightingale, 22nd in 22:42; Jamie Ford, 27th in 23:50; Brooke Dunn, 29th in 24:08; Mariah Brown, 30th in 24:10; Kelsey Leighton, 36th in 24:53; and Lauren Barkhouse, 38th in 25:19.

In the boys’ race, Alex Bulteel of Orono edged Ellsworth sophomore Dan Curts by just 34-hundredths of a second at the finish with a time of 16:41.45.

In the team competition, it was Caribou the winner with 50 points, followed by John Bapst 68, Ellsworth 76, Orono 109, Mattanawcook 147, Presque Isle 151, MDI 161, Foxcroft 203, Hermon 237 and Old Town no score.

For Ellsworth, behind Curts, were Kody Holmes, 17th in 18:47; Brayden Beardsley, 18th in 18:52; Robert Looker, 19th in 18:52; Stephen Kirby, 20th in 18:57; Frank King, 22nd in 19:02; and Patrick McKay, 29th in 19:22.

For MDI, William Fletcher led the way, placing 25th in 19:12. He was followed by Jon Sproule, 32nd in 19:37; Ethan Craigo, 35th in 19:49; Ralph Magnani, 36th in 19:52; Ransom Burgess, 38th in 19:57; Sam Sproule, 40th in 20:03; and Christopher Heel, 51st in 21:17.
