Free Kick Propels Lady Vikings Over Eagles

Written by  Hugh Bowden Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 3:04 pm

CARIBOU — A direct kick by Sarae Sager found its way into the net midway through the first half and that was all the Caribou Vikings needed to nip the Ellsworth Eagles 1-0 on Saturday.

With the win, the undefeated Vikings improved to 6-0-1 and sit atop the Eastern Maine Class B standings for the moment.

“I felt like we controlled the momentum of the game and had the better scoring opportunities,” said coach Myers. “But they had that one direct kick.”

Goalkeeper Jessica Toothaker had three saves on 12 shots for the Eagles, and Caribou’s Morgan Swan stopped four of seven Ellsworth shots.
