BLUE HILL — A header by Ben Plohr midway through the second half proved to be the game-winner for the George Stevens Academy Eagles in a 3-2 victory over the Sumner Tigers on Wednesday.

GSA grabbed the lead less than eight minutes into the game when Ben Eley lined a shot from the corner that glanced off the hands of Sumner goalkeeper Sam Smith and into the net.

Smith and GSA goalkeeper Ben Olivari came up with big saves over the next 26 minutes before Sumner’s Gabe O’Brien knotted the score on a direct kick from just outside the 18-yard line with 6:17 remaining in the first half.

Less than a minute later, the Tigers took their only lead of the game when Joey Malloy took a pass from Baramee Janlee and beat Olivari with a 12-yard shot into the goal.

In the opening moments of the second half, Smith knocked away a shot by GSA’s Loriman Looke, but Mariner Cheney collected the rebound and pushed the ball into the open net to tie the score for GSA.

Smith and Dillan Harmon combined for five saves on 13 shots for the Tigers, and Olivari had seven saves on 18 shots for GSA.
