BLUE HILL — From the air, it’s a tapestry of lobsters, traps, buoys, gulls, a whale’s tail and a lobster boat. From the ground it’s a thicket of cornstalks, dead ends and alternative paths.

Homewood Farm’s second annual 10-acre corn maze forms the centerpiece of this year’s harvest celebration at the farm.

Located at 118 Ackley Farm Road, off Route 15 in North Blue Hill, Homewood Farm began welcoming visitors and corn maze adventurers on Saturday, Sept. 17. The maze is open to the public every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 30 and on Columbus Day, Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Special events at the maze include a full-moon walk on Oct. 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. and a haunted maze on Oct. 28 and 29 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Visitors to the farm also can enjoy hay rides, purchase fresh produce from the farm stand and view farm animals. Worcester’s Takeout will set up at the farm on maze days to sell lobster rolls, crab rolls, hot dogs, burgers, drinks and other items.

A trebuchet set up near the rear of the farm will allow visitors to launch pumpkins into the pasture land below.

Designed and created by Homewood Farm owners Jeff and Trude Beardsworth, the “Trapped in Maine” maze is dedicated to the fishermen of the Downeast coast.

The intricate tapestry features buoys dedicated to the memory of past fishermen, including one in honor of Jared C. Grindle, who died in a 2004 car accident at the age of 17. Proceeds from a tip jar on the hayride route will be given to the Jared C. Grindle Youth Sport Scholarship program.
