Eagles Thump Coyotes

Written by  Hugh Bowden Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 2:21 pm

OLD TOWN — The Ellsworth Eagles claimed their third win of the season, with their best offensive effort so far, as they rolled over the Old Town Coyotes 5-1 on Monday.

The Eagles spread the scoring around, with Kyle Haslam getting things started on a pass from Logan Dyer.

Nick Holt scored off a throw-in from Riley DeWitt, and Josh Bean gave Ellsworth a 3-0 lead with just under three minutes to go in the first half.

Jake Hale and Ben Haslam had second-half goals off corner kicks by Bean to complete the Ellsworth scoring.

Old Town’s lone goal — the first scored against the Eagles this year — came off a kick from deep in the corner by Mike Melanson.

Thomas Sawyer and Steve Mahon combined for five saves on 13 shots in goal for Ellsworth, and Andrew Richardson and Jameson Ploch combined for eight saves on 27 shots for the Coyotes.
