Trojan Girls Win at Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE — Speedy Ellsworth Eagle sophomores Dan Curts and Aleta Looker claimed their second cross-country wins of the season on Saturday.

At the Presque Isle Invitational, the Mount Desert Island girls — with 34 points — took top team honors and Ellsworth (53) finished second to the Caribou Vikings (35) in the boys’ team competition.

In the girls’ varsity race over the 3.17-mile course, Looker finished with a winning time of 20:21, besting runner-up Carsyn Koch of Washburn by 26 seconds.

The Trojan girls placed seven runners among the top 15 — in a span of just 88 seconds — in winning the girls’ competition.

Maggie Painter was fifth in 21:43, Olivia Erickson seventh in 22:11, Nora Hubbell eighth in 22:13, Isabel Erickson 10th in 22:26, Malia Demers 13th in 22:50, Waylon Henggeler 14th in 23:02 and Rachel McMinimy 15th in 23:11.

For the Ellsworth girls, who placed fourth with 83 points, Mallory Nightingale was 19th in 24:10, Brooke Dunn 23rd in 24:28, Lauren Barkhouse 28th in 25:19, Kelsey Leighton 30th in 26:28, Jamie Ford 32nd in 26:56 and Kimika Endo 37th in 28:39.

In the boys’ race, Curts topped runner-up Matt Eager of Presque Isle by 21 seconds in winning with a time of 17:15.

Behind him for the Eagles were Kody Holmes, ninth in 19:04; Frank King, 14th in 19:30; Brayden Beardsley, 16th in 19:41; Robert Looker, 18th in 19:43; Evan Boudreau, 19th in 19:56; and Patrick Mackay, 25th in 20:11.

For the MDI Trojan boys, William Fletcher led the way, placing 17th in 19:42. He was followed by Ransom Burgess, 29th in 20:45; Ethan Craigo, 31st in 20:53; Ralph Magnani, 38th in 21:32; Chris Heel, 40th in 21:40; Andy Gallup, 41st in 21:41; and Matthew Jardine, 50th in 23:05.
