LAMOINE — On Saturday, the team of third- and fourth-graders knocked off Hampden 12-6.
Parker Littlefield scored the opening touchdown for Ellsworth with a 20-yard run on the team’s second possession.
Hampden managed a drive to Ellsworth’s 10-yard line in the second quarter before time ran out.
In the first play of the third period, Connor Crawford raced 65 yards for Ellsworth’s second touchdown and a 12-0 lead.
Hampden scored on a long, sustained drive late in the third period and both teams went scoreless in the final stanza.
Ellsworth got strong defensive efforts from Tyler Corro, Jackson Curtis, Jacob Clark and Dylan Freeman up the middle. Cornerbacks Chase Crossman, Alex Hamilton, Gavin Libby, Jacob Hamilton and Keeland Grover and safety Austin Harris shut down Hampden’s short passing game.
And linebackers Crawford and Littlefield helped keep the Hampden running game in check.
