Downeast Horizons Cookout Draws Strong Turnout

Written by  Fenceviewer Staff Monday, August 22, 2011 at 4:01 pm

DEDHAM — More than 200 Downeast Horizons program participants and family members enjoyed a family cookout under the summer sun at Camp CaPella on Aug. 12.

Program participants enjoyed swimming and boating, crafting and fun and games in a safe and handicapped-accessible environment, with staff always nearby to offer a helping hand.

“I love coming here,” said Jill Briendel, a program participant, who has been coming to Camp CaPella since she was a child.

Alice Cooper, parent of a son, Christian, said that “he enjoys this camp so much. He can’t wait for next year.”

“What we all learn every year is that Camp CaPella is a community resource in the best sense,” said Tony Zambrano, executive director of Downeast Horizons. “Many of our participants could not have enjoyed their time at Camp CaPella were it not for the generosity of contributors.”

Located on Phillips Lake in Dedham, or Lucerne-in-Maine, Camp CaPella provides quality-of-life experiences for people with disabilities and their families.

Downeast Horizons has been assisting individuals with developmental disabilities since 1974.
