PORTLAND — Old Town came up snapped a 3-3 tie with five runs in the top of the 10th inning to down Ellsworth 8-3 in the opening round of the State Little League All-star Baseball Tournament for ages 11 and 12 on Sunday.

Ellsworth is scheduled to face York, the District 4 champion, in an elimination game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Portland’s Payson Park.

In Sunday’s game, Old Town took a first-inning lead when Nick Magoon’s wind-driven fly ball cleared the fence for a home run.

Ellsworth came up with two runs to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Zack McGraw reached base on an error, advanced on a bunt single by Zach Harris and scored on a single by Sam Giffin.

Harris then scored on a double by Michael York.

With runners at second and third, Cooper Henderson then hit a grounder to shortstop and Giffen was thrown out at the plate trying to score.

Old Town, the District 3 champion, tied the game in the top of the sixth when Nick Boutin walked and scored on a two-out, two-strike double by Cole Daniel.

Neither team was able to push across a run in the seventh and eighth innings, but Old Town took a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning when Austin Sheehan walked and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Ethan Stoddard.

Ellsworth again knotted the score in the bottom of the inning.

McGraw walked but was forced at second on a grounder off the bat of Asa Jordan.

Jack Lee then reached on an error and Harris, running for Jordan, scored on the error.

Ellsworth righthander Hunter Cote, who came on in relief of starter Nick Bagley in the sixth, ran into trouble with control trouble and wild pitches.

Kaleb Gifford led off for Old Town with a triple and scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by Daniel.

Old Town went on to scored four more runs, thanks to three walks, three wild pitches and an Ellsworth throwing error.

Bagley, a lefthander, pitched well for five and one-third innings before reaching his maximum pitch count. He allowed two earned runs on just two hits and struck out 10.

Bagley also singled for Ellsworth, which had just four hits.
