Monday, March 09, 2009 at 10:21 am

ELLSWORTH — The Maine Community Foundation invites full-time teachers in Union 98 to apply for support to integrate the study of science in their classrooms through the Emery Science Grants Fund.

Teachers in all disciplines are encouraged to apply for grants of up to $2,000.

The application (postmark) deadline is April 30.

Proposed projects should be beyond the scope of the annual school budget.

Grants will be awarded for:

  • Equipment for science-related projects, particularly for pilot and collaborative programs.
  • Classroom library resources for students and teachers.
  • Teacher professional development, including Union 98 collaborative and peer learning opportunities, conference-related expenses and coursework.
  • Curriculum development.

The Emery Fund’s advisory committee is particularly interested in funding innovative and collaborative projects with the most teaching impact.

Applications are available at mainecf.org.

Local residents John and Ellen Emery created the fund in 1990 to support science education in Union 98 schools. The Maine Community Foundation manages the fund.
