GOULDSBORO — Both candidates for Gouldsboro’s seat on the Regional School Unit 24 (RSU 24) Board agree one of the top challenges facing the board is providing quality education in a time of diminishing financial resources.
Incumbent Annie Perry and her challenger, Chuck Hodges, are competing to represent the town on a board that makes decisions for about 2,700 students in Eastbrook, Ellsworth, Franklin, Gouldsboro, Hancock, Lamoine, Mariaville, Sorrento, Steuben, Sullivan, Waltham and Winter Harbor.
“I am running for another term because I honestly don’t feel like I am done helping and working for and with the children and staff of this RSU,” said Perry, who has been on the RSU board for three years following two years on the Sumner Memorial High School Central School District Board.
Hodges said, “I want to be seen by the people of Gouldsboro as a fair representative who consistently works for what is in the best interest of the present and future students’ of this community.”
Perry, 42, of Gouldsboro Point Road, was born in Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School. She and her husband, James Perry, have three children, all of whom attend the Peninsula School in the village of Prospect Harbor.
Perry has an associate degree in accounting from Casco Bay College in Portland. When not parenting, she owns and operates a cleaning company and a wreath-making firm.
Jacqueline Weaver covers the eastern Hancock County towns of Lamoine through Gouldsboro as well as Steuben in Washington County. A New Hampshire native, she has vacationed in Maine for 25 years and has been with The American for three.
