AGES 9-10: Brewer Outlasts Acadian

Written by  Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 11:11 am

AUGUSTA — On Saturday, Acadian lost its first state tournament game to Brewer 8-4.

“After four innings, we were tied 4-4,” said coach Andrew Shea. “After that, Brewer got some key hits, some lucky bounces, and we didn’t.”

The winner of the state tournament will advance to the regional championship in Rhode Island, July 24-26.

“They’re so excited just to be playing baseball, none of their friends are still playing right now. And they understand that it’s a big deal,” said Shea. “Winning districts was a huge thing. And down here in Augusta, they really do the pomp and circumstance well. It’s good for the kids to get a little big-eyed.”
