Peter Logue of the Trenton Acadians is tagged out at the plate by pitcher Josiah Richard of the Penquis Navigators, ending the Acadians’ bid for a ninth-inning rally.

BLUE HILL — When umpire Ralph Damren makes a call, everybody hears it.
And there was no uncertainty in Damren’s voice on Sunday when he shouted “he’s out” as Peter Logue tried to score from third base for the Trenton Acadians in a game-ending play at the plate.
Trailing the Penquis Navigators 4-3 going into the inning, the Acadians loaded the bases with two outs when Logue singled and pitches by reliever Josiah Richard hit both Mike Crowley and Nick Kane.
With Schuyler Van der Eb at the plate, Richard had more control trouble, throwing a pitch into the dirt in front of catcher Dylan Graffam.
But Graffam tracked down the ball and fired it to Richard, who put the tag on Logue as he attempted a head-first slide for a run that would have tied the game.
Damren’s call drew protests from the Trenton, but to no avail.
The loss was the seventh in as many games for the Acadians, who have struggled in the early going of the American Legion Zone 1 season.
Righthander Ryan Rebar of the Navigators pitched no-hit ball for more than six innings before Trenton’s Gabe Stearns lashed a one-out single in the seventh inning.
Dennis O’Neil also singled to load the bases for the Acadians before Rebar got Jesse Down on a pop-up to second base to end the threat.
Rebar and Trenton’s Kane were locked in a scoreless pitchers’ duel until the fifth inning.
Kane got the first two Penquis batters on fly balls but Richard wound up on second base when Trenton’s Devin Young made a diving catch of his pop-up to left, only to see the ball dislodged from his glove as he hit the ground.
That opened the door for the Navigators, who followed with a run-scoring single by Brandon Spratt, a single by Kevin Stafford and a two-run double to the fence by Kevin Leary for a 3-0 lead.
The Navigators added what ended up being the game-winning a run in the top of the eighth inning on a walk, a sacrifce and an RBI double by Casey Jordan.
The Acadians finally got to Rebar in the bottom of the seventh.
Cameron Lawson drew a leadoff walk, Logue singled, Crowley plated Lawson with a single, Logue scored when Kane grounded into a force at second, Van der Eb singled and Stearns singled to drive in Kane with the third run of the inning.
Richard then came on in relief for the Navigators and struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
O’Neil came on in relief of Kane and retired the Navigators in order in the top of the ninth.
