BAR HARBOR — The volunteer-staffed planning board is down to three members.
The term of board vice-chairman Kay Stevens Rosa is set to expire at the end of this month, and she has chosen not to reapply. The move leaves the five-seat board with just three members.
No applications for the two open seats have been received, and no appointments to the planning board were made by the town council Tuesday in their annual session to staff the town’s volunteer boards.
Ms. Stevens-Rosa, who has served nearly 10 years on the planning board, said that the responsibilities of running her A4 Architects business with her husband, and raising four children, have become her top priorities.
“The planning board is just getting to be a little more burden on my time than I can afford,” she said.
The planning board must have a quorum of three in order to meet. If just one of the three current members should now be absent, no quorum would be possible.
Board member Perry Moore is a landscape architect who often has a conflict of interest with regard to applicants before the board, because of his professional work. Mr. Moore’s recusal from matters before the board would now leave only chairman Lynne Williams and member Peter Hastings to hear applicants.
