Lady Flyers Defeat Eagles For State Title

WATERVILLE — On Saturday, against the Western Maine Waynflete Flyers, the GSA Eagles managed only a win at second doubles as they fell 4-1 in their bid for a state Class C title.

For the Eagles, Grace Bugbee and Hannah Dietz prevailed 7-5, 6-2 over Emily Trafton and Sophie Raffel.

But the remaining matches all went Waynflete’s way.

It was Kaitlyn Thompson over Sotherd Steer 6-1, 6-1 at first singles; Emily White over Tierney Hally 6-4, 6-1 at second singles; and Maddie High over Charlotte Reiter 6-3, 6-3 at third singles.

At first doulbes, Elena Britos and Hilary Niles nipped Maddie Theoharidis and Ramsay Williamson 7-6 in a 7-3 first set tiebreaker, then took the second set 6-2.
