BUCKSPORT — The Bucksport Golden Bucks scored five runs in the first three innings, then made them stand up in a 5-4 quarterfinal win over the sixth-seeded Camden Hills Windjammers on Thursday.

The Golden Bucks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Windjammer righthander Adam Landwehr.

Billy DeRedin stroked a one-out double, went to third on a grounder to shortstop by Tyler McAllian and scored when Evan Eldridge beat out an infield single.

Eldridge, a senior righthander who is bound for Husson University, was dominant on the mound for Bucksport in the early going, striking out five of the first seven batters he faced.

But the Windjammers scratched out two runs to take the lead in the top of the third inning.

Kyle Olehnik reached base on an infield single, stole second and went to third on the errant throw into center field and scored when Adam Carlsen grounded out to first base.

Joel Gabriele then walked, stole second and scored on a single by Isaac Grindle.

But the lead was short-lived.

The Golden Bucks scored four runs in the bottom of the inning, and did so on just one hit.

With one out, DeRedin was hit by a pitch, McAllian walked and Eldridge singled to load the bases.

Landwehr then walked Shawn Smith to force a run home, McAllian scored on a wild pitch and Eldridge raced home on a groundout to short by Mike Cummings.

The Windjammers were unable to make a play on Ryan Bailey’s grounder past the pitcher’s mound, and that reloaded the bases.

Olehnik pounced on a bouncer by James Potter and put the tag on Smith, who tried to score, but Tyler Burrill then drew a walk to force in Cummings with the fourth run of the inning.

Eldridge continued to cruise, retiring the Windjammers in order in the fourth and fifth innings.

But he ran into trouble in the seventh.

Singles by Keegan Pieri and Taylor Hall and a walk to Olehnik loaded the bases, and RBI singles by Chandler Crans and Carlsen followed before Gabriele fouled off a pitch for strike three, and Grindle grounded out to end the game.

Eldridge scattered seven hits and struck out 12 batters in his complete game effort.

Landwehr also gave up seven hits and struck out eight in going the distance.
