WATERVILLE — The GSA girls won their third Eastern Maine title in five years on Wednesday, at Colby, with a relatively easy 5-0 sweep over the second-seeded Foxcroft Academy Ponies.

The Eagles quickly put three matches in the win column with straight-set victories.

Charlotte Reiter downed Emma Malay 6-2, 6-2 at third singles; Maddie Theoharidis and Ramsay Williamson bested Summer Lian and Suzie Chen 6-4, 6-0 at first doubles; and Grace Bugbee and Hannah Dietz roller over Tia Tondro and Kate Morrison 6-4, 6-4 at second doubles.

But the top two singles matches both went to three sets.

At first singles, GSA’s Sotherd Steer dropped the first set 3-6 but then went on to defeat Lindsay Kousaie 6-2, 6-3 in the next two sets for the win.

And in a second-singles match that lasted nearly three hours, GSA’s Tierney Hally dropped the first set 6-7 in a 10-8 tiebreaker but came back to win the next two 6-3, 6-3 to complete the sweep.
