BUCKSPORT — The Regional School Unit 25 School Board June 1 named Ed Hatch the new assistant principal/athletic director at Bucksport High School.

Hatch, a physical education teacher, has worked at the high school for nine years. He will be taking over for current Assistant Principal Dan Clifford, who will be principal in the coming school year.

Hatch was one of 29 applicants for the position.

He has taught at Mount Desert Island High School, Penobscot Elementary School and Orland Consolidated School.

Hatch holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Springfield College and a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Maine.

“I wanted to stay involved and take on a greater challenge,” Hatch said.

The School Board also recently hired a new curriculum coordinator for the district. Ellen Almquist is retiring from the post.

The new curriculum coordinator is Evelyn Beaulieu of Orono.

Beaulieu is currently principal and curriculum coordinator of the Opal Myrick Elementary School in East Millinocket. She also worked for several years in the University of Maine’s adult learning programs.

She holds a doctorate in education from the University of Maine.
