Army Reserve 1st Lt. Eric W. Giles, Army Reserve Spec. David T. Aston III and Army Reserve Spec. Ryan R. Campbell are returning to the United States after a deployment to Iraq serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn, or Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and the Southwest Asia Theater of Operations.

The soldiers return to Joint Base Dix-McGuire-Lakehurst, N.J., for debriefing, evaluations and out-processing procedures before returning to their regularly assigned Army Reserve or National Guard units.

Operation New Dawn transitions and signifies a formal end to U.S. military combat operations in Iraq.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners.

Giles, a military police platoon leader with 11 years of military service, is regularly assigned to the 94th Military Police Company based out of Saco.

He is the son of Paul and Vena Giles of Egypt Lane in Franklin. Giles is a 1989 graduate of Sumner Memorial High School in Sullivan and received a bachelor’s degree in 1993 from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.

Aston, a military police member with three years of military service, is regularly assigned to the 94th Military Police Company based out of Londonderry, N.H.

He is the son of Robin A. Aston of Gouldsboro Point Road in Gouldsboro and is a 2009 graduate of Bangor High School.

Campbell, a military police member with six years of military service, is regularly assigned to the 94th Military Police Company based out of Saco.

He is the son of Claudia L. Bonsey of Bucksport and is a 2004 graduate of Old Orchard Beach High School.
