ELLSWORTH — The 10-1 Bucksport Golden Bucks trail only top-ranked Medomak Valley (12-1) in the Eastern Maine Class B standings, and the 9-2 Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners are ranked second in Eastern Maine Class D with just over a week to go in the high school softball season.

The Ellsworth Eagles have improved to 6-7 and are ranked ninth in Class B after wins this week over John Bapst, Sumner and Washington Academy.

The 5-7 Mount Desert Island Trojans currently are ranked 12th in Class B and out of the playoff picture.

In Class C, the 5-8 Sumner Tigers were ninth and the 6-6 George Stevens Academy Eagles were 12th, two notches out of playoff contention, before GSA’s win over Sumner on Tuesday.
