That outburst snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Eagles a lead they never relinquished as righthander Annika Firestone scattered six hits to get the pitching win with a bit of relief help from freshman Megan Hunt.
Hunt came on to strike out the final two batters in the seventh inning.
Firestone finished with three singles, driving in two runs, and Cristin Wright, Sam McGuire and Hollie Hutchinson also singled for the Eagles.
Sarah Leighton had an RBI double in the first inning for the Tigers,.
Sumner staged a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, getting singles by Jessica West and Kiera Eschete, an RBI single by Hunter Rivers and a sacrifice fly by Katelyn Hodgkins before Hunt struck out Jennie Daley and Genesis DiCarlo to end the game.
