BUCKSPORT — The Mount Desert Island Trojan boys and girls won Hancock County team championships in outdoor track, and Ellsworth Eagle senior Chrisshawn Fluker was the day’s only triple winner in individual competition.
With wins in 11 events, the Trojan girls overwhelmed the rest of the field, amassing 271 points.
The Bucksport Golden Bucks edged the George Stevens Academy Eagles 94-92 for the runner-up spot, Ellsworth was fourth with 80 and the Sumner Tigers finished with 22 points.
Sophomore Baily Burr and freshman Rebecca Planchart were double winners for the Trojan girls.
Burr was first in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 2 inches, and first in the triple jump, clearing 30 feet, 4.5 inches.
Planchart won the 1,600-meter racewalk in her first-ever attempt with a time of 10:51:36 and was first in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 6 inches.
Other winners for MDI:
Rachael McMinimy was first in the 3,200-meter run in 13:35.07.
Julia Lewis took top honors in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.27 seconds.
Augusta Blanford won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 53.28 seconds.
Chelsea Curran placed first in the pole vault at 7 feet, 6 inches.
Rebecca O’Donnell won the discus with a throw of 77 feet, 7 inches.
The Trojan foursome of Meghan Catanese, Burr, Blanford and Emily Lewis was first in the four-by-100-meter relay in 55.76 seconds.
Catanese combined with Emma Soucek, Isobel Erickson and Kailyn Russell to win the four-by-400-meter relay in 4:40.24.
County champions in other events:
Senior Molly Hunt of Bucksport’s Golden Bucks was a double winner, placing first in the 100-meter dash in 13.85 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 29.12 seconds.
Bucksport’s Taylor Zeigler-Miller won the javelin with a throw of 97 feet, 2 inches.
Liana Arquette of the GSA Eagles was first in the shot put with a throw of 30 feet, 5.5 inches.
The GSA foursome of Amanda Moir, Keira Tachibana, Wenwen Xi and Brooke Laprise won the four-by-800-meter relay in 12:57.67.
For Ellsworth, freshman Aleta Looker was a double winner, placing first in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.69 and the 800-meter run in 2:30.32.
Brianne Dunn won the 1,600-meter run for the Eagles with a time of 5:36.16.
In the boys’ team competition, MDI picked up first places in seven events en route to a total of 190 points.
Runner-up Ellsworth finished with 111.5 points, with GSA third at 107, Bucksport fourth at 69.5 and Sumner fifth with 67.
Ellsworth’s speedy Fluker was the day’s big winner, claiming individual titles in the 100-meter dash in 11.63 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 23.69 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 52.20 seconds.
In the closest race of the day, MDI junior Richard Helmke nipped freshman Dan Curts of Ellsworth by one-thousandth of a second in the 1,600-meter run.
Helmke ran slightly behind Curts throughout the race but closed the gap in the final seconds with each runner crossing the line with a posted time of 4:50.30.
Other champions for the Trojans:
Tom Reilly won the pole vault, clearing 9 feet.
Matthew Jardine won the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 6 inches.
Jayson Burke was first in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 1 inch.
Ryan Linde won the discus with a throw of 112 feet.
The foursome of Chris Clemens, Sam Swann, Jon Sproule and Helmke was first in the four-by-400-meter relay in 3:54.60.
Jon Sproule, Sam Sproule, Max Mason and Lucas Murphy combined for first place in the four-by-800-meter relay in 9:44.85.
Freshman Robert Looker notched the only other individual win for Ellsworth, placing first in the 3,200-meter run in 11:17.78.
Senior Nick Doolittle and junior Ben Plohr were double winners for the GSA Eagles.
Doolittle took top honors in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches, and the long jump, clearing 17 feet, 10 inches.
Plohr won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.33 and the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.54 seconds.
The GSA foursome of Andre Reinero, Abraham Ziner, Cam Fang and Zehao Wu had the fastest time of 49.70 seconds in the four-by-100-meter relay.
For Sumner’s Tigers, John Sandiego won the 300-meter hurdles in 44.85 seconds and Ryan Grover won the javelin with a throw of 139 feet, 9 inches.
The Penobscot Valley Conference Championships will be held over the next several days.
The junior varsity meet was slated for Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Bangor’s Cameron Stadium.
Eastern Maine’s small schools, including Bucksport, Sumner and GSA, will compete Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft.
Large schools, including Ellsworth and MDI, will compete at Mount Desert Island High School on next Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
The PVC Freshman Championships will be held Tuesday, May 31, at 3:30 p.m. at Bucksport High School.
