ELLSWORTH — The Bucksport Golden Bucks rallied from a four-run deficit to down the Ellsworth Eagles 13-6 on Tuesday, strengthening their hold on first place in the Eastern Maine Class B standings.
The Eagles jumped on Bucks-port righthander Tyler French for two runs in the first inning when Cote Card singled and Jordan Carter lined a pitch over the left field fence for a two-run homer.
The Eagles added two runs in the second inning and would have had more but for a superb defensive play by Bucksport centerfielder Tyler Burrill.
After singles by Kyle Haslam and Delbert Beckwith, Bobby Box doubled to score Haslam and move Beckwith to third.
Andrew Austin reached on an error to load the bases and Burrill then made a diving catch of a sinking liner to right center by Card that saved two runs.
Carter then walked to force Beckwith home with the second run of the inning, but Tyler Palmer flied out to center to end the inning.
Ellsworth righthander Thomas Sawyer ran into trouble in the fourth after pitching three scoreless innings.
With one out, he walked Tyler McAllian and Evan Eldridge and Mike Cummings singled to load the bases.
James Potter then lashed a double to right, driving in two runs, and Shawn Smith followed with a double that plated two more, knotting the score at 4-4.
The Golden Bucks pulled in front to stay with a run in the fifth on a single by Billy DeRedin, a walk to McAllian, an infield single by Eldridge to load the bases, and a botched pickoff try at third base that allowed DeRedin to score.
Bucksport sent 10 batters to the plate in a five-run sixth inning that saw four Ellsworth errors combined with a pop double by Cummings and run-scoring singles by Potter and Smith.
Eldridge padded the score in the seventh with a three-run homer, his third in the last three games for the Bucks.
Ellsworth added two runs in the bottom of the seventh before Eldridge, who came on in relief of French in the fourth inning, closed things out.
With the win, Bucksport improved its record to 7-2 while the 11th-ranked Eagles, who are battling to secure a post-season playoff spot, slipped to 6-3.
