BUCKSPORT — Six Mount Desert Island Trojan athletes were winners on Friday as the Trojans turned in a pair of third place team finishes in outdoor track action at Carmichael Field on Friday.
In the boys’ competition, it was the Hampden Academy Broncos on top with 158.33 points, followed by Old Town 115, MDI 68, Washington Academy 26 and Bucksport 24.66.
Winners for MDI:
Sam Swann took top honors in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:11.63, nipping runner-up Stefano Valsecchi of Hampden by just five-hundredths of a second.
In throwing events, Ryan Linde won the discus with a distance of 112 feet, 7 inches, was third in the shot put at 39 feet and fifth in the javelin at 119 feet, 1 inch.
Jayson Burke won the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 7 inches.
Tom Reilly was first in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet.
Also scoring for MDI:
James Magnani was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.89 seconds, second in the 200-meter dash in 23.99 seconds, third in the 400-meter dash in 54.20 seconds and fifth in the long jump at 17 feet, 6 inches.
Chris Clemens was third in the triple jump at 37 feet, 1 inch, and fifth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:18.00.
True Muzzy was fifth in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 10 inches.
Matthew Jardine was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles in 51.64 seconds.
The MDI foursome of Swann, Max Mason, Jon Sproule and Muzzy placed third in the four-by-400-meter relay in 4:01.00.
The foursome of Norman Haynes, Andy Gallup, Chris Heel and Seamus O’Brien was fourth in the four-by-800-meter run in 11:45.02.
For the Bucksport Golden Bucks:
Paul Fitzgerald was second at 130 feet, 1 inch, and Evan Seekins was fifth at 117 feet, 4 inches, in the javelin throw.
Seekins also placed fourth at 97 feet, 1 inch, and Judson Pratt was fifth at 93 feet, 9 inches, in the discus throw.
Mitchel Marks and Silas Fitzgerald tied for third at 8 feet in the pole vault.
Elijah McCarthy was fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:55.52.
The Bucksport foursome Marks, Jonathan Geagon, Casey Wardwell and Eric Davis was fourth in the four-by-100-meter relay in 49.47 seconds.
In the girls’ competition, the Old Town Coyotes placed first with 151 points, followed by Hampden Academy 99, MDI 98, Bucksport 30 and Washington Academy 1.
The Trojans swept the first three places in the pole vault with winner Chelsey Curran clearing 8 feet. Runner-up Caitie Smith and Kailyn Russell, who placed third, each cleared 7 feet, 6 inches.
Baily Burr also won the long jump for the Trojans with a distance of 14 feet, 4.5 inches, and placed fourth in the triple jump at 29 feet, 8.25 inches.
Others who scored for MDI:
Amanda MacLeod was third at 18.61 seconds and Julia Lewis was fourth at 19:48 in the 100-meter hurdles.
MacLeod also placed second in the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches, with Isobel Erickson fourth at 4 feet, 8 inches, and Rebecca Planchart fifth at 4 feet, 6 inches.
Emily Lewis placed fourth at 14.03 seconds and Augusta Blanford was fifth at 14.06 in the 100-meter dash.
In the 1,600-meter run, Maggie Painter was second at 5:44.57, Nora Hubbell third at 5:45.73 and Olivia Erickson fourth at 5:46.22.
In the 400-meter dash, Malie Demers was third at 1:06.47, Emily Lewis fourth at 1:08.75 and Blanford fifth at 1:08.77.
Blanford also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 29.82 seconds.
In the 3,200-meter run, Russell was second in 12:53.32 and Smith third at 13:53.24.
Julia Lewis was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 77 feet, 5 inches, and fifth in the triple jump at 29 feet, 5.5 inches.
Rebecca O’Donnell was fourth in the discus at 80 feet, 6 inches, and fifth in the shot put at 25 feet, 9 inches.
The MDI foursome of Meghan Catanese, Rachael McMinimy, Smith and Russell was second in the four-by-800-meter relay in 12:55.67.
The foursome of MacLeod, Catanese, Russell and Emily Lewis placed third in the four-by-100-meter relay in 56.77 seconds.
Blanford, Olivia Erickson, Hubbell and Demers combined for second in the four-by-400-meter relay in 4:42.87.
For Bucksport:
Heather Brown was second in the 1,600-meter racewalk in 13:13.52.
Taylor Ziegler-Miller was second in the javelin with a throw of 91 feet.
Molly Hunt was third in the 100-meter dash in 13.90 seconds and third in the 200-meter dash in 28.86 seconds.
Nelly Winship was third in the 800-meter run in 2:43.25.
Sina Fehr was fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 13:55.65.
The foursome of Britney Eberhardt, Rachele Daley, Kaylie Trasko and Hunt placed third in the four-by-100-meter relay in 57.36 seconds.
The foursome of Katy Jones, Danica Brassbridge, Amber Hall and Taylor Staples was fourth in the four-by-400-meter relay in 5:12.25.
