ELLSWORTH — The Bucksport Golden Bucks have climbed to the top of the Eastern Maine Class B standings in the early going of the 2011 high school baseball season.
The Bucks upped their record to 4-1 on Tuesday as they outlasted the Class C George Stevens Academy Eagles 9-7 at Bucksport.
Last week, the Bucks dealt the Ellsworth Eagles their only loss of the season thus far on Thursday, rolling to a 10-0 win in five innings at Bucksport.
The Hermon Hawks, in turn, handed the Bucks their first loss with a come-from-behind 5-4 win on Saturday.
Ellsworth, currently ranked fourth in Class B at 4-1, rebounded from the loss to Bucksport with a high-scoring doubleheader sweep over the Caribou Vikings on Saturday at Ellsworth.
Also in Class B, the 5-2 Mount Desert Island Trojans are holding down the number seven spot after a lopsided win over Mattanawcook Academy on Tuesday.
