Trojan Girls Win Three Events

BAR HARBOR — The host Mount Desert Island Trojan girls won three events and the Ellsworth Eagle boys one at Saturday’s annual MDI Relays.

The meet attracted 22 teams from throughout eastern Maine with the Old Town Coyote girls and the Hampden Bronco boys emerging as overall winners.

In girls’ action, MDI’s Trojans placed fourth, with the George Stevens Academy Eagles, Ellsworth, the Bucksport Golden Bucks and the Sumner Tigers well back in the field.

The MDI foursome of Kailyn Russell, Nora Hubbell, Olivia Erickson and Malia Demers won the four-by-800-meter relay in 10:59.48.

MDI’s Russell, Caitie Smith and Chelsea Curran combined to win the pole vault team event with a combined height of 22 feet, 6 inches.

Trojans Isobel Erickson, Summer Cast and Amanda MacLeod won the high jump team event with a combined height of 13 feet, 6 inches.

Also for the Trojans:

Emma Soucek, Meghan Catanese, Olivia Erickson and Hubbell combined for second in the 1,600-meter freshman sprint medley in 5:00.24.

Augusta Blanford, Baily Burr, Russell and Demers joined forces for second in the four-by-400-meter relay in 4:35.52.

CeCe Andrews, Shelby Sullivan, Smith and Rebecca O’Donnell were second in the four-by-100-meter shotput relay in 1:03.98.

Trojan foursomes also placed third in the four-by-100-meter relay; fourth in the four-by-200-meter relay, 4K distance medley and 1,200-meter coed spring medley; fifth in the four-by-800-meter relay; and sixth in the four-by-60-meter shuttle hurdles.

MDI girls’ teams also took third in the high jump, fourth in the triple jump, fifth in the javelin throw and sixth in the shot put.

Ellsworth girls managed a fifth place in the 4K distance medley, GSA girls took fifth in the discus throw and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles, and Bucksport girls placed sixth in the four-by-200-meter relay.

On the boys’ side, Ellsworth finished sixth, MDI was eighth, and GSA 10th.

The Eagle foursome of Jake Jordan, Logan Leathers, Chrisshawn Fluker and Dan Curts won the 1,600-meter sprint medley in 3:56.02.

Ellsworth’s Dakota Holmes, Neal Anderson, Curts and Derek Hawes combined for second in the four-by-800-meter relay in 9:13.02.

Hawes, Fluker, Anderson and Curts also placed second in the 4K distance medley in 11:43.42.

The Eagles also took third in the four-by-100-meter relay, fourth in the four-by-200-meter relay, fifth in the long jump team event and sixth in the high jump team event.

For GSA, Ben Plohr was runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.39 seconds, and GSA boys also placed fourth in the 1,600-meter sprint medley and fifth in the four-by-100-meter relay.

MDI boys were runners-up in the triple jump and discus throw team events, third in the four-by-800-meter relay, fifth in the 1,600-meter freshman sprint medley and high jump team event, and sixth in the four-by-400-meter relay and the javelin throw and shotput team events.

A Trojan foursome also placed fourth in the 1,200-meter coed sprint medley.
