“We’re doing pretty well. But we’re not going to rest at all for three or four more weeks. We’re in the sprint to states,” head coach Tony DeMuro said. “We’re shifting gears a little bit right now too, focusing less on yards and more on intensity and speed ... the only way to swim faster is to swim faster.”
“I am really happy with how the kids are working. They have a great work ethic, all of them,” DeMuro said. “But I’m trying not to give them too, too much praise right now ... trying to keep them as humble as possible.”
Against Old Town, the team fielded four divers for the first time in several years.
“All four girls did all six dives for the first time in a while,” Coach DeMuro said. “It’s a hard sport. We only have three practices a week with them, so progress can seem painstakingly slow. But it was great to see them out there at the meet.”
In the 1-meter dive event, Nellie Lavalle placed second, Ellie Mason placed third, Samantha Luck place fourth, and Riley Heist placed seventh.
The Trojans will compete against Brewer High School on Friday, at 6 p.m. in Brewer. Friday, Jan. 21, the team will swim against Bangor High School in Bar Harbor. Their final dual meet of the season will be against John Bapst Memorial High School on Friday, Feb. 4, at 6 p.m. in Bar Harbor.
