Dan Curts Wins Two Events

ORONO — Two Ellsworth Eagle freshmen came away with wins, and four Bucksport Golden Buck girls swept the top four places in the two-mile run, in Saturday’s season-opening Eastern Maine Indoor Track League competition at the University of Maine fieldhouse.

Teams were separated into “A” and “B” meets for scoring purposes.

In the boys’ “A” meet, Ellsworth freshman Dan Curts was a double winner, placing first in the mile run in 4:45.52 and first in the 400-meter run in 56.13 seconds.

The Old Town Coyotes took top team honors with 176 points, followed by Brewer 100, Central 52, Ellsworth 31, Mount Desert Island 25, Foxcroft Academy 18 and Bucksport 5.

Also scoring for Ellsworth was Luc Victor, who placed fourth in the mile run in 5:23.64 and sixth in the 400-meter run in 1:02.57; and Derek Hawes, who was third in the 800-meter run in 2:21.14.

For MDI, James Magnani won the 55-meter dash in 6.95 seconds and was fifth in the 200-meter run in 25.19 seconds.

In the shot put for the Trojans, Ezra Hallett was second with a throw of 34 feet, 3.5 inches and Chase Brown was fourth at 33 feet, 3 inches.

Hayden Thomas was sixth for the Trojans with a time of 2:25.86 in the 800-meter run.

For Bucksport, Eric Davis placed fourth in the 400-meter run in 1:01.63 and Shawn Hanscom was sixth in the shot put at 31 feet, 8.5 inches.

In the girls’ “A” meet, Old Town won with 146 points, followed by Brewer 121, Bucksport 66, Ellsworth 24, Central 23, Mount Desert Island 22 and Foxcroft Academy 14.

Ellsworth freshman Aleta Looker took top honors in the mile run with a time of 5:42.57 and senior teammate Brianne Dunn was third in 5:50.39.

Dunn also placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:40.63.

For Bucksport in the two-mile run, Sina Fehr was first in 14:13.92, Jade Darragh was second in 15:21.84, Heather Brown was third in 15:45.33 and Britney Eberhardt was fourth in 17:50.04.

Also for the Golden Bucks:

Lisa Tapley was second in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 4 inches, and sixth in the long jump with a distance of 11 feet, 10 inches.

Molly Hunt was third in the 55-meter dash in 8.32 seconds.

Nelly Winship was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:40.75, and in the mile run, Winship was fourth in 5:56.90, Fehr was fifth in 6:41.34 and Darragh was sixth in 7:00.96.

Avalon Langevin placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 27 feet, 4.5 inches, and fifth in the long jump with a height of 12 feet, 1.25 inches.

In the four-by-220-yard relay, the Bucksport foursome of Winship, Rachele Daley, Katy Jones and Hunt placed fourth in 2:05.61.

For MDI’s Trojans:

Rebecca O’Donnell was second in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 1.5 inches.

Kailyn Russell was third in the pole vault with a height of 6 feet, 6 inches, and fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:45.13.

Caitie Smith was fourth in the pole vault with a height of 6 feet, 6 inches.

In the boys’ “B” meet, Hampden won with 144 points, followed by Bangor 127.5, Orono 46, Mattanawcook Academy 38.5, Hermon 36, John Bapst 26 and Sumner 21.

Scoring for the Tigers:

Taylor Lee placed second in the two-mile run in 11:37.47.

Kyle Jordan was third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches.

Daniel Gerrish was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.09 seconds.

Kurt Hand was sixth in the mile run in 5:35.87.

John Sandiego was sixth in the 400-meter run in 59.83 seconds.

The foursome of Lee, Brandon Wade, Zac Wells and Hand placed fifth in the four-by-880-yard relay in 9:41.83.

The foursome of Gerrish, Jeremiah Estabrook, Ryan House and Sandiego was fifth in the four-by-220-yard relay in 1:51.05.
