ORONO — The Ellsworth Eagle boys posted wins in five events as they outpointed 12 other teams for top honors in a season-opening outdoor track meet at Orono on Saturday.
For Ellsworth, Ben Chapman won the 1,600-meter run in 4:54.24, Brian Batson won the 800-meter run in 2:10.69, Jeremiah Roper was first in the 3,200-meter run in 11:13.87, Sage Dyer won the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 8.5 inches and the foursome of Chapman, Batson, Kris Kohut and Brandon Duarte won the four-by-400-meter relay in 3:48.55.
The Sumner Tiger foursome of Matthew Holmes, Nathan Vandegrift, Justin James and Anthony Cultrera won the four-by-100-meter relay in 48.21 seconds.
Team scores were Ellsworth 115, Old Town 75, Orono 74, Foxcroft Academy 68, Stearns 55, Sumner 49, Presque Isle 31, Bangor Christian 22, Limestone 22, Schenck 22, Fort Fairfield 8, Greenville 8 and Searsport no score.
In the girls’ meet, Ellsworth got wins in three events while finishing fourth in the team scoring.
For the Eagles, Brianne Dunn won the 1,600-meter run in 5:49.65, Kara Beal won the 300-meter hurdles in 54.72 seconds and the foursome of Darien Lewis, Kalyn Jackson, Rosie Vachon and Dunn took first in the four-by-800-meter relay in 10:58.89.
Team scores were Old Town 152, Orono 96, Presque Isle 93, Ellsworth 79, Fort Fairfield 46, Searsport 37, Greenville 16, Bangor Christian 12, Foxcroft Academy 10, Limestone 8, Stearns 4, Sumner 1 and Schenck no score.
