ORONO — The Ellsworth Eagle boys and the Mount Desert Island Trojan girls swam their way to the runner-up spots behind the Class A Bangor Rams in Saturday’s annual Penobscot Valley Conference Relay Carnival at the University of Maine.

In the boys’ competition, it was Bangor with 204 points, followed by Ellsworth with 142 and MDI third with 124.

In the girls’ meet, Bangor nipped MDI by just six points, 196-190, with Ellsworth placing fourth with 106 points and the George Stevens Academy Eagles 12th with 12 points.

The Ellsworth boys took top honors in two events and the Trojan girls were winners in four events.
